They’re Here!

How’s your weekend going? I hope it’s off to a good start!

Stella is ready for some more trail adventures. With temperatures close to 70 degrees, we will be all about the outdoors!

boxer, hike, trail

This week a very important thing happened. My nieces stopped by to deliver our Girl Scout cookie order. Oh happy day!

Another exciting thing was this soup! It’s a vegetarian, loaded baked potato recipe and it’s divine. Hope to share it with you soon!

Can we talk about saltine crackers for a moment? Does your family go through them like water? I don’t know what the deal is, but it seems like I buy a box of them every single week. They just seem to disappear! Good thing they are cheap.

I had to share my new favorite, running shirt with you! I bought it on super sale on Black Friday. I finally got around to wearing it last week. It has thumb holes! I’m a big fan of thumb holes.

And then I realized it has built-in, fold-over mittens. What?! I am in love!

Fold-over mittens… Yay or nay?

What’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie? Caramel Delites!

She’s a Senior!

As I mentioned in my last post, my oldest child is a senior this year. I’m having a hard time wrapping my brain around that one. When I look at her, I still see this version.

first day of school, preschool, prek

My little girl going off to her first day of school ever with her little pink, Disney Princess backpack. PreK. Such a big deal.

So to switch from that to having her senior pictures taken last weekend. It’s a bit much.

OMG Becky picked a awesome, historic building downtown to have her session.

Outfit changes in the public bathroom!

And trains! We found trains to play on, too.

I can’t wait to share the finished professional photos with you! They are gorgeous! Now it’s just a matter of narrowing our final choices down. It’s hard to pick!

So for now, I am trying to focus on the fun, exciting parts of her senior year.

Like her need for dessert after her photography session. All the sugar!

And like college campus tours. We are going on our first one in a couple of weeks! And I’m trying not to think about the fact that these colleges are so far away. I can’t. That just makes my heart hurt. It doesn’t do much for my weepy eyes either.

Any parent of a senior past or present have any words of advice for me?

What were your senior pictures like? Two words. Big hair.

I’m So Fancy

What it is about holidays weekend that makes them fly by? They are extended weekends, but seem so short. Maybe it’s all the fun involved?

Saturday morning, I slept in again and it was glorious! Well, I did get up at 6:15 AM to tell OMG Becky “Good Morning” and “Goodbye” before she headed off to work. Then it was back to bed for me for another hour of sleep. So nice!

And then it was off to the woods for Stella and I. The humidity was low and I wanted to eat hike some hills for breakfast.

There were so many flowers in bloom on this particular trail!

I also came across something that I couldn’t figure out what the heck it was…

Snowberry Clearwing Hummingbird Moth

See the yellow and black thing hovering over the purple flower on the left? (I really need a better camera!) At first, I thought it was a bumblebee, but it was hovering and beating it’s wings, so I decided it was a hummingbird. Wrong. Research today determined it was a Snowberry Clearwing Hummingbird Moth. A moth! Such an impostor.

We got a few miles in before the humidity found us. We were hot, dirty, and sticky. Ugh, summer in the Midwest.

I rewarded myself with a pedicure! This color is really had to photograph. (I’m sure it had nothing to do with my photography skills.)

It’s more neon orange in person. It’s going to look great with the tan I plan on getting on vacation here shortly! Sorry Stella, no pawdicure for you this time.

Yesterday after church, OMG Becky and I did a little vacation prep shopping.

sunhats, sunglasses

We are so fancy. She bought her accessories. I did not. I just don’t like how I look in them. None of them. Ever. But I keep trying! Someday I am going to find the hat for me.

Yesterday was also an awesome day because Sassy came home! Happy days are here again! Stella was excited to see her and needed to burn some energy. A trip to the dog park would do it. Sassy had never been. Lucky girl met a boxer that gave her a welcome gift all over her leg as soon as we walked in.

Mmmm, dog drool. I shouldn’t have laughed because 20 seconds later a muddy German Shepard pup larger that Stella jumped on me. It never fails. Dogs love me. I think I’ve told you, I’m not really a dog person, but they keep trying to change my mind.

Another exciting thing about this weekend? I tried a new recipe!

white enchiladas

White Enchiladas! These were delicious. Both of my girls, a friend, and I all really liked them. They will have to make another appearance soon.

Update: These enchiladas do not reheat well. At least not in the microwave! Next time, I will make the same amount, but then divide it up into two smaller casserole dishes, freezing one for a future meal.

Enchiladas. Red or white sauce? White!

Are you a hat person?

My girls and I spent a lot of time exploring this park when we lived there. I miss the beauty it offers year round.

A Tale of Two Tights

Yesterday, I was in the final stages of getting ready. Last thing to put on was my tights. Truth be told, (And really, why start lying to you now?!) I was kind of excited about them! I had asked my mom for fun tights for Christmas. After explaining to her what that meant, one of the pairs I received was this one…

animal print tights

How cute are those? Gray and black zebra print with a strip of leopard! I’m not a huge fan of animal prints, but these are a great accent piece. See why I was so excited?

First, I tried putting them on according to the location of the tag, center back. No brainer, right? I put them on leg and realized that positioned the leopard strip up the front of my leg. Odd. Usually any stripes on hosiery is up the back.

So I figured I would be a rebel and wear them backwards so the stripe would be up the back of my legs. I put them on one leg and then the second. I then pulled them up for the final positioning and quickly understood we had another problem. I had them pulled up as far as they would go and let’s just say they were sagging and only about half way up my rear. Fantastic.

At this point, I’m running of time and need to get out the door for work. I grab a different pair of tights, yank them on and go to work.  And at work, within a couple of hours, I cross my legs and snag the inner knee on my boot zipper.

torn tights, hole in tights, houndstooth tights

Awesome. I got to spend the rest of the morning walking around with this one inch hole visible to everyone.

Lunch time meant another tights change. Third pair for the day. Because I love laundry. Just kidding. I threw away the holey tights.

And this is why I can’t have nice things.

Do you like tights? Total necessity in winter for me!

What is your favorite accessory to wear?
