That’s a Wrap

I have been without a cell phone since Friday.  It kept restarting itself non-stop and re-sending my last text message to my mom.  Over and over again.  She was super excited to get it from me 20+ times before I was able to turn my phone completely off!  😉  My cell phone carrier is sending me a new replacement phone.  It was supposed to be here yesterday.  Surprise, surprise, it did not arrive.  I have been using Sassy’s phone.  It does not have internet.  Or a touch screen.  It had better be here today!  I am having serious withdraws from technology.  #firstworldproblems.

I tell you that not to complain.  Okay, maybe to complain a little.  But mostly to explain why there are no pictures to accompany this post.  Her phone may have a camera, but I am lucky to figure out how to make a call on the dumb thing.

This weekend both of my girls had softball tournaments.  OMG Becky did what she loves best.  Stealing bases.  And more times than not, stealing bases involves sliding.  On her second time sliding, she hurt her knee again.  The swelling had been down, but this made it immediately swell back up.  She was out the rest of the game.  And I wouldn’t let her play at all on Sunday.

Yesterday, we went back to the sports medicine doctor to see what our options were.  I knew they would want to drain it.  But I also wanted more information on what to do next.  We have had x-rays, an ultrasound and a MRI.  We need answers.  Draining it may only be a temporary problem, since her knee had reabsorbed the fluid on its own before during a week off from softball.  The doctor and his colleagues think she basically de-gloved her meniscus.  The current plan is to drain it, compress and wrap it.  Keep it like that for five days.  Sponge baths only!  Remove the wrap at that point and no activity for another five days.  She will then be off for another week due to a church youth trip.  This will hopefully allow the injury time to heal itself.

We had the draining done yesterday.  It was painful.  I hate being a mom and seeing your child in pain and knowing there is nothing you can do for them in that moment to make it stop.  But you would have been proud of me!  I stayed in the room with her and didn’t throw up or pass out!

In early July, OMG Becky can try softball again to see how it the knee does.  If it swells again, we will be off to the surgeon to see if it is repairable. If not repairable, softball may be over for her.  This is, of course, very upsetting for us to even think about.  She loves softball and has been playing since she was five.  We are keeping our thoughts positive and following doctors orders to the T.  Please send her some healing thoughts!

My sweet baby girls!  This was the summer after OMG Becky started playing softball.  She is six in this photo and Sassy had just turned three a few weeks before.  So cute!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

  • Morning: Iced coffee = 12 oz. coffee, plus 1/4 cup Italian sweet creme creamer & 2 packets of Splenda.
  • Breakfast = Open face sandwich = whole wheat toast, 1 Laughing Cow garlic & herb wedge, & 1/4 medium avocado.  Banana.
  • Snack = Bowl of watermelon.
  • Snack = Cheese stick & Popped Roasted Red Pepper Crisps.
  • Dinner = 2 pieces of pizza = medium Domino’s handmade crust with pineapple & onion.
  • Snack = small piece of chocolate strawberry nutella cake

    Esh. I hope the doctors can figure out OMG Becky’s knee and that it get’s better.

    Shin splints are a common injury but I’ve been dealing with them for 13 years now so I’m pretty much an expert at how to deal with mine. I’m actually going to Disney in January because I’m running the marathon, my dad’s doing the half the day before so he’s coming with. As we have family there, we’re just going to have a mini-family reunion.
