Music, Dance & Statues

Our summer break is off to a great start.  And when I say our, I mean my girls becuase I don’t have the luxury of taking the summer off.  I really should have became a teacher!  But we do try to fit in as much summer fun as we can while they are here.  They visit their dad in the Midwest for half of the summer.

Today we slept in and had a lazy morning of reading in bed.  I headed to work for a few hours this afternoon, while the girls had a final softball practice.  Tonight we wanted to head downtown!

A local theatre company here offers a free community show on an outdoor stage several nights a week during the summer.  This is something they have been doing for years.  We try to go as often as possible.  It can get pretty crowded, but you can see from most anywhere around the stage.  Many people bring picnics from home or takeout from one of the many nearby restaurants.

Tonight’s show featured Renaissance and baroque music performed on period instruments.

It was okay.  Not really my thing, but live music is always awesome to be a part of.

My favorite part of the evening was watching this father and son duo dance to song after song.

They were so cute!  Lots of turns, dips and skipping!  I am also in awe of that gal’s mohawk of many colors.  So bold!

After the concert, we ran into a few other entertainers on our walk home.

The living statues are back!  I haven’t seen them since last summer.

We also got to listen to this great group for a while.  They drew quite a crowd.

The first day of summer break for my girls was a success!  I can’t wait to see what else we can find to do!

Do you get a chance to see local entertainment very often?
