Where Did My Day Go?

Today was a busy work day.  Nothing exciting to share.  Just a lot of in-office paperwork.  My least favorite kind!

I like to be out and about, working with the public.  Lucky for me, I get to do a lot of that!  Just not today.  Boo hoo.

But I did want to share my smoothie of the day with you.  Today was day 5 of the 7-Day Green Smoothie Challenge.  I wanted this smoothie to taste like a strawberry shake.  High ambitions!

  • handful spinach
  • 8 good-sized frozen strawberries
  • container Fage Strawberry Goji Greek Yogurt
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup vanilla coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Originally, I make it without the honey, but I decided I need a bit more sweetness.  Overall, I didn’t really care for this one.  I’m not sure what it was.  It was creamy enough.  Who knows.

But one thing I did like about it…

The colors!  Look how pretty it is!  It reminds me of peppermint ice cream.  One of my favorite ice cream flavors!

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

How would you rather work each day…  in an office with the same people or in a new location with the public each day?

Misty Morning Trail Run

I tried out my new trail running shoes today!  It was a good day to try them, too.  It had been raining all night and it was misting on us the entire time.  The trail was soft and muddy with puddles.  We ran some crazy hills and steps, climbing fairly high before looping back down.  I only tried over a rock once and almost lost my footing twice looking to see how close the runner behind me was.  I also managed to leap over several logs down over the trail without tripping.  Who is this girl?!

Pretty great way to start my day!  I was worried that the new shoes might feel really stiff comparing to my regular running shoes, but I didn’t notice this to be a problem.  So far, so good!

Today was Day 4 of the 7-Day Green Smoothie Challenge.  Blueberries sounded good after my run so I mixed my smoothie around them.

Ingredients included:

  • 5 oz. frozen blueberries
  • 1 container Fage Blueberry Acai Greek Yogurt
  • 1/2 frozen banana (obviously not the banana shown)
  • 1 cup vanilla coconut milk
  • 1 handful spinach
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein powder

This smoothie was great!  Creamy and tasty.  Much better than yesterday’s smoothie attempt!  I think I am getting better at this.  I’ve already planned out tomorrow’s smoothie.  #7daygreensmoothiechallenge

Omelet, Shoes & Socks. But Not Together.

Do you ever have a day where you crave something all.day.long?  Today my every thought returned to one thing.  My spinach omelet.

So as soon as I got home from work, I started making it.  You are welcome in advance for the phenomenal photography skills about to be displayed.

I always start by grilling the chopped onion, usually just one slice of a sweet onion.  And then I add a handful of spinach, loosely chopped.

And then these two farm fresh beauties!

Once the veggies are grilled, I add the eggs.

And my favorite part!  The cheese!  This time I used feta.  I wait until the eggs are almost done before adding about two tablespoons of cheese.  I like the cheese to be warm but not completely melted.  (Please don’t be jealous of my manicure remains.)

Dinner is served.  So worth the wait!

And then I found a surprise on my porch.  A brown box.  Whatever could it be?…

My new Vasque trailing running shoes!  I ordered them online last week and they are finally here.  Just in time for my group run tomorrow.  We are heading to the park for a trail run.  Yeah!   I also ordered a pair of Merrell Windrush socks to try.  And for whatever reason (Happy Hump Day?) the company sent me a free Quaker Yogurt Granola Bar.  Yes, please and thank you!

In other news, today was day three of the 7-Day Green Smoothie Challenge.

Today’s combo was:

  • handful of spinach
  • 1 cup vanilla coconut milk
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
  • 5 oz. pineapple
  • 6 large ice cubes

The color of today’s smoothie was brighter and lighter than Day 1 & Day 2 smoothies.  I had really high hopes for this one.  I love pina colada flavored anything and thought this would taste similar.  But it didn’t live up to my expectations.  Not sure how to describe it but it wasn’t… sweet enough.  It was too… light (airy), icy, maybe.  Kind of blah.  I want to play with the recipe more and get a better result.  #7daygreensmoothiechallenge

And these are just because I wanted to share the pretty, fresh flowers currently gracing my dining room table.

What are you craving lately?

What was the last piece of workout gear you bought?

I Look Like a Runner?

Today I received the best compliment ever!

Another runner in my group ran right behind me the entire time.  I heard her mention something about me having a nice stride to our coach late in the run but wasn’t sure exactly what she said.  I tried not to think about it because I am a bit self-conscious about how I look when I run.

Because I really feel like I look like that often when I run.  That’s one of the reasons I like running in the morning vs. afternoon.  Fewer people around to see me running.

When we get back to our gym (our start/finish), the runner approaches me and tells me that I have a great even stride, my run looked “effortless” and it was like she “was watching a movie about running.”

Effortless?  I don’t think so.  My runs feel anything but effortless.  I’m beginning to think she must have been blinded by the rain we ran in or sweat or something…

But isn’t it amazing how a few kind words from a relative stranger (this group has only ran together 5 or 6 times now and I have never really talked to her before) can make us feel so good.  And with those few kind words, she became my new favorite person in the world!

Today is Day 2 of the 7 Day Green Smoothie Challenge.  My plan was to do some grocery shopping before today’s smoothie.  That didn’t happen, because I was starving after my run this morning.  I wanted a smoothie now!!  And given that I was starving, my brain refused to think of anything original to mix and since I loved yesterday’s smoothie, I went with the same recipe today.

And maybe because I was starving, but I think today’s smoothie tasted even better.  It really hit the spot!

Feels Good To Be Green

I accepted a challenge hosted by Peanut Butter Runner to make a green smoothie everyday for a week.  #7daygreensmoothiechallenge

Smoothie?  Yes!

Green?  Yes!  Yes!

Today, day 1, smoothie ingredients:

  • 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1 cup dark chocolate almond milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 handful baby spinach
  • 3/4 cup ice

All combined to make a very yummy, filling green smoothie!

I know this one looks very baby poo food like, but trust me, it was delicious.

Not sure what I will make for tomorrow’s smoothie.  Maybe I will do a little grocery shopping for motivation.  I need ideas!

What do you like in your green smoothies?

Spring (Cleaning) Has Sprung

My girls are currently on Spring Break with their dad.  While they are gone, I am going to try to get a few projects done around the house.  Why is it sometimes so much harder to accomplish the smallest things with kids around?

My project list includes:

Project #1:  Organizing my closest.  My current closet is the smallest closet I have ever had.  It has double sliding doors so it’s not terribly tiny, but I’m having to adjust.  It currently has one long bar across for hanging clothes.  And one shelf that runs across the top of it.  Nothing else.  My shoes are a complete mess.

The Fix:  I purchased one of these for my shoes.

I will probably need another one.  But we will see.  I am also thinking about getting one of the units with drawers.

The units can be stacked, if needed.  Think they will do a lot to help get the lower section of my closet in shape.

Project #2:  The garage.  I have a single car garage that is actually pretty large.  It has room for storage along one side, as well along the front of the garage.  The problem being there is only one built-in shelving unit currently.  I need more shelves and a place to store our bikes.  They are currently being kept against a fence, under a tarp.  Not good!

The Fix:  I purchased a set of heavy-duty shelves for more vertical storage.

I also bought a storage track system with vertical bike hooks, similar to this one.

Once I get the bikes in place, I hope to get a few more hooks for the girls softball bags, brooms, etc.

Project #3:  Our back deck.  Our house does not have a back yard.  It has a deck that you can access through the dining room or kitchen.  The deck itself is very narrow.  I will have to measure it, but I would say it’s 5′ x 40′.  We cannot fit a regular-sized table out there.  There is also my neighbor’s garage just a couple of feet away from the deck.  My  landlord put up bamboo screening along my deck for privacy.  But the whole space is a very blah, monotone beige.

The Fix:  Color!  I need pops of color.  This will be done with lighting, potted plants, placemats and rugs.  Seating!  I have purchased two green, bistro sets for outside dining.

So there you have it!  My plans for Spring Break.  Not that I have any time off work, but with my girls gone, I hope to get a lot accomplished.  I will post the before and after pictures as I complete the projects.

Do you get time off for Spring Break?

What are your Spring Break plans?

Do you have any Spring Cleaning projects you are working on?

Lame Lunges

Thursday’s workout included several types of (what felt like 792, but probably less) lunges.  This resulted in very sore upper legs and rear end yesterday and today.  I admit, I can’t remember the last time I did any lunges before Thursday.

But the upside?  I’m sure these lunges are going to help with strengthening and defining aforementioned parts.  Right?…

And I’m also pretty sure I looked ridiculous doing them.

In public.

On a track.

In broad daylight.

Are you a fan of lunges?  Are they a part of your regular workout?

Rummage, Brunch & a Movie

Spring Break has begun!  Well for my girls anyway, not really for me.  Except for today.  I took the day off.  Yeah me!

We slept in a little and then Sassy and I went to a rummage sale.  It was packed!  Wall to wall tables full of stuff with very narrow paths.  Add in way too many people and I was ready to run screaming from there.  We made one quick sweep through and headed out.  No treasures for us today.

Then we headed back home to pick up OMG Becky and then off to brunch.  We decided to go to my favorite breakfast place.  They are only open mornings until 1:30 PM.  And there is usually a pretty long wait, but I was hoping since it was almost 11:00 AM on a weekday, we might get lucky in between the breakfast and lunch rush.  And we did!  We only had to wait about five minutes before being seated.  Score!

The restaurant was originally a house.  It is adorable, with blue, green, yellow and purple tones everywhere.

OMG Becky was checking to see if the flowers were real.  They were.

I always order the same thing when I go there because it is the best!  My main dish comes with a warm, berry muffin or toast.  I always get the muffin.  It is so moist that after cutting it open to spread the pat of butter, the muffin must be eaten with a fork or spoon.  And then came the main event!…

The Gorgonzola Omelet with my choice of hashbrowns, buttermilk pancakes, white cheddar polenta or tomatoes.  White cheddar polenta, please!  You can’t tell from this photo, but this omelet is huge!  I, at the most, only eat half of it.  They rest comes home with me for a second meal.  Yummy leftovers!

And now lets see what’s in that omelet!

Toasted walnuts, caramelized onions and fontina cheese!  Oh yes!

My girls decided to split on of the dishes this restaurant is known for.  The Lemon Ricotta Stuffed French Toast with Raspberry Syrup!

I had to try a bite.  It was amazing!  I can see why it’s so popular.  It was a lot of food, even with the girls splitting it.  They both came home with half of their halves.

This afternoon, OMG Becky and I finally did what we have been waiting weeks to do…  We went to see a little movie…

Have you heard of it?  It was as good as I had hoped it would be!  Yes, they left out many things from the book.  But the movie on its own made sense and all the important parts were covered.  I cannot wait to see the next movie from this book trilogy!  I am currently on book three.  I am reading it slowly because I don’t want them to end.

Did you see the movie today?

Have you read the books?

Crybaby Calves & Compression Socks

I finally broke down and bought a pair of compression socks.  I am really hoping they cut down my recovery time after steep hikes and stadium stairs.  My calves hate those and continue to remind me of their hatred days after the workout.

Stupid calves, get over it already!

I had to get pink!  Because I’m a girl who loves pink.  It makes me happy.

You can get your own pair here.  And the best part?  They are currently 50% off, plus free shipping!  I’m not sure how long the sale lasts, so you may want to order soon if you want that deal.

Do you have compression socks?  When do you wear them?

Penguins, Pie & Pancakes

My daughter, Sassy turned 11 last week.  She wanted to have a couple of friends spend the night versus a bigger party for just a few hours.

Presents!  Yes, that is Christmas wrapping paper, but in my defense, she loves penguins.

Birthday pie!  Key Lime pie is her favorite.  She decided that is what she wanted instead of a cake.  So pie it was with a side of Birthday Cake ice cream!

Pajamas on, waiting for popcorn, watching a movie.

Pillow pile!  Luckily, they were pretty quiet most of the night and only woke me up a few times.

The next morning I made them peanut butter, banana pancakes.  They ate no less than three each!

When was the last slumber party you were a part of?
